Community Guidelines
Last updated August 20, 2026
Circuit is a running app. You generate routes, collect the places you run past, and, if you choose to, share runs and follow other runners. These guidelines cover the parts other people can see: comments, run titles and notes, your username, your display name, and your public profile.
The short version: talk to people the way you would at the start line of a race. Swearing is fine. Aiming it at someone is not.
What's allowed
Honest opinions, tough feedback, frustration about a route, jokes, and trash talk between people who know each other are all welcome.
What isn't allowed
Harassment and bullying
Personal attacks on another person: insults, mockery, or abuse directed at someone. This includes following someone around the app to repeatedly comment on their runs, and coordinating with others to pile on a person.
Hate speech and slurs
Slurs or degrading content targeting people based on race, ethnicity, national origin, religion, gender, gender identity, sexual orientation, disability, or any other protected characteristic. This applies whether it's aimed at a specific person or a group in general.
Threats, violence, and self-harm
Threatening anyone, wishing harm or death on anyone, or telling someone to hurt or kill themselves. Also content that encourages or glorifies suicide, self-harm, or disordered eating. A fitness community is exactly the place where that does real damage.
Sexual content and child safety
Nudity, sexually explicit content, or sexual solicitation. Any sexual content involving a minor is reported to the appropriate authorities and results in an immediate permanent ban.
Other people's private information
Posting someone's home address, phone number, workplace, ID documents, or financial details without their consent, or encouraging others to find or publish that information.
Impersonation
Using a username, display name, photo, or profile to pose as someone else, or to imply a connection to a person, brand, or organization you have no connection to.
Faking activity
Circuit awards badges and tracks streaks, distance, and personal bests. Deliberately fabricating runs to earn badges or inflate stats undermines that for everyone. That includes recording by car or bike, editing GPS data, and otherwise manufacturing activity.
Spam and illegal content
Bulk or repetitive posting, advertising, links to unrelated commercial or adult sites, and content that is illegal or facilitates illegal activity.
Your safety on a running app
Circuit trims the start and end of every shared run by a radius you control (200m by default, adjustable in Settings) so a shared route doesn't reveal your home or workplace. Your raw GPS is never made public. Even so, a regular route shared publicly says something about your habits. If that matters to you, increase the privacy radius or keep your runs private. Photos you attach to places in your Journal are private to your account and are never shown to other users.
How we enforce this
Two things work together, because neither is sufficient on its own:
- Automatic screening. Slurs, threats, and sexual-violence language are blocked automatically when you try to post them, across comments, run titles and notes, usernames, and display names. This is a blunt instrument. It reads words, not intent, which is why it targets only unambiguous content and leaves ordinary language alone.
- Human review of reports. Everything that depends on context, such as whether a comment is a joke between friends or an attack, is reviewed by a person. That's what reporting is for.
Depending on what happened, we may:
- remove the content;
- send a warning;
- limit access to social features;
- suspend the account temporarily;
- or permanently ban the account for serious or repeated violations.
Reporting and blocking
| To report | How |
|---|---|
| A comment | Press and hold the comment, then tap Report. It's also hidden from your view straight away. |
| A run | Open the run, then use the ⋯ menu in the top right. |
| An account | Open their profile, then use the ⋯ menu to Report or Block. |
Blocking someone stops them seeing your activity and stops you seeing theirs. You never need a reason, and they aren't told.
Reports are reviewed and acted on. If you believe we got a decision wrong, or your account was actioned in error, email us at the address below and a person will look at it again.
